A loan of $1,150 helped to buy guinea pigs and maintain her farm.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes, 35 years old, is a simple woman. She lives in the company of her daughter who she takes care of in the house constructed of rustic materials that belongs to her sister. Her days are centered on the care of her five nieces and nephews who were left as orphans, along with her family who support their upbringing. “All afternoon I’m dedicated to them. We are the only thing that they have,” she affirms.

Mercedes raises guinea pigs. Her success began two years ago, when she decided to dabble in the raising of those animals. Now she already has 150 specimens. She sows alfalfa to feed them and she later wants to grow her farm. Every four months the production increases. It is because of this that she constantly sells the guinea pigs to the butchers that come to her home.

This is her fourth loan with Kiva and she hopes to firm up her plans with the financial support that she will receive. On the other hand, she promises to make her payments punctually. Mercedes will invest the 3000 Nuevos Soles in the purchase of guinea pigs and the maintenance of her farm.
