A loan of $400 helped to buy fruit.

Carmen's story

Carmen is 22 years old and is a hardworking young woman. She lives in a home of her own along with her husband, Edwin, and her daughter. Thirteen years ago, when she was a young girl, she decided to sell sugarcane juice, which is medicinal and good for colds. Her business is doing well. She works very hard, from sunrise to sunset, with the cart she bought a few years ago. She is able to set up in a centrally located commercial area. Now she also sells diced fruit such as pineapple and watermelon. This will be her first loan through Kiva and she is grateful for the financial backing she has gotten. She also promises to be on time with her payments. Carmen will use the 1,000 PEN to buy sugarcane and other fruits such as oranges, pineapple, and watermelon.
