Gnesouma Group's story

The 6 members of the Gnesouma group are principally married women with an average age of 37 and, on average, 5 children. They mainly live in monogamous families in Hamdallaye, one of the popular districts of Sikasso town (3rd administrative region of Mali). This is their 4th loan from the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution, which they have requested in order to satisfy their customers' needs.

Fatoumata is the group member who sells fruit and vegetables. She is standing in the middle of the picture. She plans to use her loan buy baskets of bananas, avocados and fresh tomatoes which she will resell for cash or credit at the Hamdallaye market, to a diverse and varied retail clientèle. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 40 000 francs, part of which will be used to pay off the loan and its interest and part of which will be used to build up her savings.
