Balimaya Group's story

The 4 members of the Balimaya group are married women with an average age of 40 and, on average, 5 children. They mainly live in monogamous families in Hamdallaye, one of the popular districts of Sikasso town (3rd administrative region of Mali). This is their 4th loan from the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution, requested in order to satisfy their customers' needs.

Aicha is the group member who sells fruit and vegetables. She is standing second from the right in the picture. She plans to use her loan buy some baskets of cucumbers, lettuce and mangoes from the local wholesalers. She makes her sales for cash at the Hamdallaye market and door-to-door to a retail clientèle made up of men and women. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 45 000 francs, part of which will be used to pay off the loan and its interest and part of which will used to build up her savings.
