Benkadi Group's story

The 6 members of the Benkadi group are primarily married women with an average age of 40 and, on average, 5 children. They mainly live in monogamous families in Médine, one of the popular districts of Sikasso town (3rd administrative region of Mali). This is their 13th loan from the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution, requested in order to be able to satisfy their customers' needs. Safoura is the group member who sells clothing. She is standing on the left of the picture. She plans to use her loan to buy clothing from the wholesalers which she will resell locally at the Médine market to a diverse and varied retail clientèle. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 40 000 francs, part of which will be used to pay off the loan and its interest and part of which will used to build up her savings.
