Meteoritos 2 Group
The businesses that the members of the communal bank have are various. Among them are: sewing aprons, knitting and sales of blankets, french fry and cracker sales, rug braiding, fruit sales, and food sales.
The loan they are getting out will benefit a group of small microentrepreneurs of which Verónica is a member. She states that this is the first time she has joined Pro Mujer, signing up at the invitation of a friend who is a partner of the institution. Currently, she has a business selling fruit. She began this business on her own initiative with little capital, and she currently wishes to expand it.
The loan that she will take out is for a capital increase for fruit purchase. She will acquire the fruit in the fairs in the city of El Alto and will subsequently sell it in her retail space. This way of working allows her to generate resources in order to support her home as much as possible since she has a common law husband and two children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes the savings.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
