A loan of $1,225 helped to buy ten sacks of "niandam" for 200,000 francs, 10 pigs for 250,000 francs, 20 sacks of livestock food for 300,000 francs and 10 bowls of left-overs for pigs for 20,000 francs.

Marie Catherine's story

Marie-Catherine is a female member of the Banc Villageois. She is 61 years old, married and mother to five children, two of whom are boys. Her main activity is trading. With her loan she is planning to buy ten sacks of niandam (which resemble beans that you boil with a little salt) at 20,000 francs each, which she will sell in all the surrounding markets for 25 francs per spoonful. She is also planning to buy ten pigs for fattening at 25,000 francs each and 320,000 francs worth of food for livestock. She has good experience in these activities and makes a good living out of them. With her profits she will be able to cover her household expenses and save money in the Banc Villageois.
