A loan of $1,525 helped a member to purchase condiments.

Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group is composed of five married women who are on average 44 years old with three children. They live in traditional extended families with their husbands, co-spouses, brothers and sons in the Massablacoura quarter of Bougouni.
They met through neighbourhood, friendship and business contacts. To reinforce their financial capacity in order to do better business, they joined the Soro Yiriwaso micro finance institution and this is their third loan. The two previous loans were repaid correctly. This group of women buy and sell condiments like Tima, the only one sitting in the photo.
With her loan she plans to buy two boxes of Maggi cubes and four sacks of onions from the wholesalers in Sikasso. She sells her merchandise at the market retail for cash or credit to an essentially female clientele.
She hopes to make an average monthly profit of 45.000FCFA which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay her loan.
