A loan of $1,475 helped to do maintenance on her land and buy vegetables.

Marelith's story

Marelith is 35 years old and married to a man named Hipolito who is a farmer. They have two children who are 16 and six years old and she lives with them in her own home which she built with the help of her husband. Marelith's work consists of selling plantains and fruits at wholesale and retail prices as she has 14 hectares of land where she grows the produce that she sells. She harvests the produce in a continuous manner with the support of a day laborer who she contracts seasonally. Everything she gets from the harvest is sold at her stall located in the main market of the city where she works all day. She has had her stall for five years but has been working in this field since she was very young. She began initially by helping out at other stalls but now has her own establishment where she works with the support of her husband and older son. They assist her in loading and transporting the heavy produce.

What she likes about her work is that it allows her to have a greater income source for her family. She feels comfortable with her work because she is very familiar with the rhythm of the business. She says that she has a great desire to continue expanding her business. It is for this reason that she hopes to complement her business with the sale of vegetables that are in high demand from the public. This is her sixth Kiva loan. She is very happy knowing that she has financial support to be able to continue increasing her working capital.

The loan she has requested is 3800 nuevos soles which she will invest in the maintenance of her land and the production of regional fruits which are her business' primary products, and will also buy vegetables including onion, potatoes and tomato.
