Emerita's story

Emerita, who is 55 years old, is married to Marcos, who is a worker. She lives with her husband in the home she purchased with his help. Emerita works selling books. Her business is set up in a space located in her home. This allows her to save on rent. Neighbors as well as strangers who come through the area keep her store busy. She serves her customers kindly. Her bookstore has been in business for nine years, and during this time it has become very well-known and popular. Her husband helps see to the customers in his free time. What she enjoys about her work is that she became very well-known in the area and that it earns her the financial income she needs to have peace of mind. She mentions she chose this business because she needed to find a trade and feel productive, so she is very eager to keep growing and for her business to expand. This will be her sixth loan through Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support she is receiving in order to keep going. She will use this loan of 2,000 nuevos soles to purchase assorted items like notebooks, pencils, books, etc. to stock her bookstore. She thinks that the more variety her business can offer, the better it will be received.
