A loan of $5,450 helped to pay for print advertising and purchase women’s apparel such as dresses, shoes, purses and other accessories.

Darius's story

Owning a business has always been Darius’s dream. He and his wife opened Encore Consignment Boutique a year ago and he says the business has taken off. Encore Consignments specializes in fashionable plus-size clothing, as well as shoes, accessories and hand-crafted locally-made jewelry and other items.

Darius’s fashion-savvy wife manages the daily operation of the boutique, along with caring for their four children. Currently, Darius’s wife is the sole full-time employee, but his vision to expand the business is not too far in the future. He plans to hire staff once he can afford to pay them.

With help from Accion Texas Inc., Darius was able to pay for print advertising and purchase women’s apparel such as dresses, shoes, purses and other accessories. Part of the loan will go towards operating costs of the facility on a daily basis. Without this loan, Darius said he would not have been able to acquire this new merchandise or advertising to grow his business.

The local Chamber of Commerce in Alabama referred Darius to Accion Alabama – an extension of Accion.

With Accion’s help, Darius said his dream has come true.
