A loan of $400 helped to buy bags of rice and sugar.

Irma's story

Irma is 30 years old. She is married and has a daughter with whom she lives in rented housing. Irma sells groceries for a living. Since she was young, she helped in the her parent's family business in a similar industry. However with coming of age and the need to grow personally she opted to go independent and is very knowledgeable about the business she chose together with her husband starting it with their own money. She has diverse products in her business that include rice, sugar, bags of salt, canned goods, and oils, among others.
She considers it a job where there are good profits with which it is possible to sustain her family economically. She has in her mind to continue working with the motivation of making her business a wholesale store, hoping to significantly improve her income and therefore her quality of life. This is her first loan with Kiva She is grateful for the opportunity provided and she promises to comply with the payment schedule in a punctual manner. She needs 1,000 soles to buy 5 bags of rice and 5 of sugar. In this way she is hoping to get a better price and stock up on these for a prolonged period with high demand among her customers.
