A loan of $800 helped to purchase an electric sewing machine in order to ease her work and save time.

Safargul's story

Safargul is a 48-year-old resident of Kulob and a married mother of six. She has three daughters and three sons. Her husband works abroad. Safargul's oldest daughter helps her mother with work and is learning to embroider. Two of Safargul's sons sell DVDs and SIM cards. Her other three children are in high school.

For 15 years Safargul has sewn and sold national dresses (chakan) and skullcaps. This craft has been passed down from generation to generation. Safargul learned to embroider from her mother. Now this craft is her profession and she is teaching her own daughter.

Safargul is requesting a loan to purchase an electric sewing machine in order to make her sewing easier and to save time. This will give her more free time to embroider skullcaps, which are sewn by hand.
