The United Women Group's story

Adama is the featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs. Adama was born in Gbene, 27 years ago. She is married to a diamond miner/businessman and the couple has two children – one in primary school and the other is too young for school.

For the past two years, Adama has been selling market food – palm oil, onions, salt, pepper, sugar, flour, rice, etc. This is the first loan that Adama and her group members have applied for from SMT/Kiva lenders. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their respective businesses, increase their sales, and consequently improve their living conditions.

Adama will use her share of the loan (SLL 500,000) to buy palm oil, onions, salt, pepper, sugar, flour, rice, etc. at wholesale to add to her current stock.
