New Life Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present the members of the 'New Life' group. These are small scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 for each person in the group to invest in their respective businesses.

Jeneba is the featured leader of this group. Jeneba is 30, and married with three children – one in primary school, one in secondary school, and the other is too young for school.

Jeneba sells palm oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil), onions, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, rice, sugar, flour, etc. and has been doing this business for three years.

With the help of this loan, Jeneba will invest in her business by buying the above mentioned items in bulk to add to her current stock.
