Baba Sairam Self Help Group's story

Dukhi, 53, is married and has one daughter. Her family lives in a village of the Khorda district of Odisha, India. Dukhi and her husband earn a living through farming. They grow vegetables and rice in their field. Having been in this business for two years, she is able to earn approximately 5,000 INR per month to meet her family’s needs.

Dukhi is leading a group of 13 members to apply for a loan with People's Forum. As the leader, she is going to use her portion of the loan to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland and to cover operational costs. Other members of her group are engaged in different types of activities such as goat farming and operating general stores. With this loan, she hopes to grow more crops and sell them for a good price to make a better living to send her children to school. The members of the group Baba Sairam Self Help Group are very responsible and ambitious.
