A loan of $400 helped to buy a cooker.

Rolando Alcides's story

Rolando is 45 years old and lives in the city of Pucallpa with his wife and four children, whom he loves and who are his main reason for living. Rolando is friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic and has a great desire to get ahead in life. Unfortunately, due to a lack of financial resources and because he had to work from a very young age, Rolando was not able to study to be a mechanic as he had wanted. In his spare time, Rolando likes to play football with his friends and, on occasion, he likes to prepare a delicious “arroz con pollo” (a traditional, Peruvian dish made with chicken and rice) to share with his family.

Through his own initiative, and with a lot of determination and dedication, Rolando has a small business cutting keys. He works every day at his small stall providing his services. He does this for around ten hours a day. He likes his job and thinks it is going well because of his good prices and because of the friendly service he offers.

Rolando is very grateful to Kiva lenders as, thanks to the help provided, he will be able to buy a cooker. This will help him a lot as he currently only has a small grill which runs on coal. With the cooker, Rolando and his family will be able to prepare adequate meals and have a sure way to cook. Rolando will continue working and putting in the effort to achieve his great dream of having his own DIY shop.
