Joseph is a 66-year-old widower with ten children; six of the children are still attending school. He lives in the Kanoni-Rakai district with his children.

Joseph is a farmer who has a banana plantation. He has been in agricultural business since 1993. He sells his agriculture products to traders from Kampala who usually come twice in a week. He hopes to be the leading supplier of matooke (bananas) in Kanoni.

He is a teacher, but started this banana business since he had done it before, and he finds it is easy to monitor while he continues his teaching job.

Joseph has acquired a loan of 700,000 shs to buy pesticides and manure for treating his banana plantation, with the hope of obtaining a high yield. His challenges are a new banana disease that attacks his plantations, and clients who take products on credit and then delay settling the debts.

He describes himself as a honest man.

This loan is part of UGAFODE's green loan program, giving Ugandan farmers the support they need to grow and process organic fruits and vegetables. Funds will be used to obtain critical resources like processing equipment, mulch and organic seedlings to reduce waste water contamination and improve consumer health. The green loan program also helps clients combat regional problems like deforestation and over-fishing.
