A loan of $1,150 helped to purchase a sheep and pesticides.

Batmakan's story

Batmakan is 51 and has two children. She earns a living for her family through animal husbandry. She started out after the breakup of the Soviet Union with 10,000 soms (KGS). Thanks to her hard work, Batmakan's farm now has 2 head of cattle with calves, and 3.7 hectares of land planted in potatoes and perennial grasses. With the goal of expanding her business, Batmakan has turned to the Bai Tushum & Partners Microlending Bank for a loan in the amount of 55,000 soms (KGS) to buy a sheep and pesticides to apply to the soil. Batmakan plans to invest the proceeds gained from the loan into further augmenting her number of livestock, as well as to save up for the children's education.
