A loan of $4,450 helped a member to pay for purchasing fertilizers and pesticides and to pay labor costs.

Ann Maa Tarini Self Help Group's story

Gitanjali, 36, is married and lives with her family in the village of Balipatna in the Khurda district. She has two children, who are in school. To make a living, she has been farming vegetables on one acre of farmland for four years. The current business earns her family about 5,000 Indian rupees per month.

Gitanjali's group consists of twelve members who live in the same village and are neighbors. All the group members are engaged in vegetable and paddy farming. She is leading her group to apply for a loan. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland and also use a portion of it to spend on labor costs for pumping water. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from her field business so as to better her family’s living conditions.
