Mema Group's story

Clement M. is married and a father of four. He operates a fruit a vegetable stand in Dar-Es-Salaam and works daily from 7am to 10pm. Clement has operated this business since 2000 and earns a monthly income of $140.00. With this loan from Kiva, Clement hopes to expand the size of his shop, offer a better variey of fruits and vegetables, and increase his monthly profit. With this added profit he wants to send his children to school.



Clement is the leader of the Mema group, which consists of 23 other members. All members will share in the loan according to their business needs. Furthermore, each member is responsible for the other, resulting in a guarantee of the entire loan's repayment. The group has succesfully repaid both of the loans they received from Tujijenge.
