Kagadi, Uganda / Liquor Store / Off-License

A loan of $400 helped to buy refreshments for her bar.

Doreen's story

Doreen is a 28-year-old single mother of three. One of her children goes to school. Doreen also takes care of her mother. As a way of generating income to look after the family, Doreen operates a waragi (local brew) business and has been doing this since 2009.

Doreen wants a loan of 1,000,000 UGX to add to her waragi business as well as to complete her house. Her dream is to acquire a motorcycle to ease her transport business and also set up a second business to diversify the earnings. This will help her take care of the family and educate the children.

Doreen's major challenge is limited capital in the business to meet the demand. It ends up being costly because she spends a lot on transportation since she can only afford to purchase in small quantities.

Doreen is pictured in the photograph with the loan officer.
