A loan of $700 helped to buy a motorcycle of his own.

Edward's story

Edward is aged 23 years old, single but with three children aged four, two and one year old. .Due to Edward's parents' lack of school fees, he was unable to go further with his studies so he dropped out of school at a tender age. After dropping out of school, he started doing motorcycle transport ('boda boda') to get money for survival and he has been doing that since 2010. But the motorcycle was not his; it belonged to someone else.

Edward now wants a loan of 1,800,000 shillings to add onto his savings and buy his own motorcycle for 3,300,000 shillings. His dream is to save money from the motorcycle-riding business and buy land to get involved in agriculture so he can diversify his earnings.

The major challenge Edward faces is the poor road network, most especially affecting business when it rains. In the photograph is the loan officer with a tie and the client at the client's home.
