Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,325 helped to build a wall around his home.

Edgar Meliton's story

Thirty-eight year old Edgar is married to Silvia, with whom he has two young children. The older one is 8 years old and is in primary school, and the younger is only 5 years old and in preschool. They want to give them the best so that they can have an enterprising future.

They are applying for a Kiva loan in order to improve their housing, since it is lacking a wall around the house, and they don't have the necessary money to be able to buy the material and pay someone to build it.

With the salary that Edgar receives as a guard, they plan to repay the loan, and his wife will be responsible for family and school expenses with the income she receives from her job.

They want to improve the quality of life for their family, so that they have a safe place to live, since his children are young and like to go outside to play.
