Ubaldina's story

Ubaldina is 36 years old. She is single and has a house made from brick that she was able to build over the years and with the help of her ex-husband. She has a business which consists of a little food store. At first, she worked in agriculture, growing organic cacao and other more commercial products in the area. Nonetheless, 8 years ago, with money she had saved up, she decided to radically change her work and opened a convenience store. At first, it was a little complicated, because she had little capital and didn't acquire very much merchandise. As the years passed, she was able to expand her business. She usually gets products wholesale since that brings in more profits and ensures her merchandise for a longer time. One of her main goals apart from improving and enlarging her business is acquiring a parcel of farmland and renting it out to increase her income with her business. This is her first Kiva loan and she is committed to making her payments on time. With the 1,000 nuevos soles she has been lent she hopes to stock her business again with sacks of rice and sugar, sodas, preserves and the most popular grains with her customers.
