A loan of $775 helped to purchase rice, sugar, canned fish and others.

Juana's story

Juana is a 47-year-old single mother who lives with her two children in a sun-dried brick house. She used to produce organic cocoa and lived in an annex close to her crops. She managed to earn a capital which allowed her to build her house in the urban part of her locality. She quit farming to pay more attention to her children and give them a better education. To provide for her family, she opened a grocery store in a nice part of her home and has been working there for 5 years.
Her business is usually well stocked, but she needs to have some backup capital to maintain the customer turnout. The products in highest demand are rice, sugar, cereals, canned goods and sweets, as well as cool drinks.
She hopes to maintain a good work flow and achieve one of her goals, to build a house with noble materials and rent rooms long term to students and professionals in the area.
This is her first loan with Kiva and she is grateful for the trust and the opportunity she is being offered.
With the 2,000 nuevos soles she will purchase more products to stock her store such as sacks of rice, sugar, canned fish, canned milk, biscuits and soda, among others.
