A loan of $1,150 helped to hire local laborers to work on her organic chocolate farm.

Graciela's story

Graciela is 38 years old, divorced, and possesses a home made of wood where she spends her days with her 3 children. Graciela owns some parcels of land she acquired with the help of her ex-husband and, little by little, she has managed to work it until it was converted into the principal source of her family's sustenance.

Graciela began with little but, eventually, she managed to hire local laborers to lighten the diverse production tasks and in the end, she has obtained quality organic chocolate whose plantings occupy all of her parcels. It took 15 years of work and the price of chocolate has grown only in small increments.

Graciela hopes to acquire more parcels to farm in order to expand her plantings and, in effect, to increase her income and benefit her children, whom she hopes to assist in becoming good professionals.

This is Graciela's 1st loan with Kiva, and she is very grateful for the opportunity offered. She promises to comply with her schedule of payments in a responsible way. With the 3,000 sols requested, Graciela will contract local laborers to pull the weeds on her parcels in order to obtain a good harvest.
