Felicitas's story

Felicitas is 42 years old and married to Edilberto. She lives with her two daughters in an adobe house and produces organic cacao and achiote (a spice). She has been supporting her parents with small tasks since she was a little girl, the farm being the family’s main source of support. Having been elderly when she got engaged to Edilberto, who inherited some parcels of land from her parents, she began a life full of goals, such as buying an additional parcel of land as an additional product of her first years’ of work with her husband. She wants to produce optimum cacao to sell but needs working capital to hire field hands and buy compost.

One of her greatest challenges is the constant attack from regional plagues that occasionally cause considerable damage to her crops, which she fights with natural repellants. This will be her first loan through Kiva. She is grateful for the opportunity and is committed to making her payments on time. She will use the 3,000 PEN to make improvements to her home, beginning with the plumbing, drainage, and improvements to her corrugated roof. The aim is to improve her family life.
