Irma's story

Irma is 55 years old. She is married to Manuel, who has a job, and they have two children. They live together in their own house. Irma has a business selling meals at the weekend. She has a small space on the pavement outside her home for her business and it is there that she sells typical, regional dishes such as "juanes" (a rice and meat dish), fried chicken and roast meats. Irma always offers friendly and polite service to her customers. She starts very early when she goes out to buy her ingredients for the dishes she will be selling each day. She has had the business for 16 years and receives support from her daughter and daughter-in-law to attend to customers. Irma likes her business as it has brought her a lot of financial and personal satisfaction. She says that the work does not require much physical effort and so she is able to move forward in life. Irma would like her work to remain stable so that she may continue to work. This is her fifth loan with Kiva and she is very grateful for the loan opportunity she is being given and for the financial support that she needs to continue. With the loan of 2000 Nuevo Soles, she will buy supplies and ingredients such as rice, plantains, flour and eggs to prepare a greater variety of dishes. She will also buy fizzy drinks.
