Leon's story

Leon is a business management student of the Maharishi Institute. Leon is 22 years old and was asked the following questions by a staff member of the Institute:

What do you study at the Maharishi Institute and what classes do you enjoy most?
“I’m doing a Bachelor of Business Administration at the Maharishi Institute. The classes I really enjoy are Media Works, Business Fundamentals and Digital Arts.”

What are your goals after graduation?
“After graduating from the Maharishi Institute, I’m planning on getting into the media and entertainment industry so I can get into the marketing department of the SABC [South African Broadcasting Corporation]. I even would like to produce entertaining and informing newsworthy programmes that will uplift and motivate the youth out there.”

Tell us about your background?
“I was proudly born in the Eastern Cape in a small town called Zwelitsha. I have two sisters and one brother, who I all adore so much. My father was a manager of Lotto in the Eastern Cape but passed away in 2005. My mother stopped working three years ago due to illness, so she is currently unemployed. I’m not married and I do not have any children.”

What do you do in your spare time?
“I’m usually helping out on weekends at a shelter for the homeless I used to live in. I write a lot of film and drama scripts and one day I want to produce my own programmes. I also volunteer at church as an usher and youth adviser.”

How will the Kiva Loan change your life?
“Kiva will really change me life, as my mother won’t constantly stress about the transport fare. The loan will ensure that I’m always on campus attending all of my lectures and not stressing about where I will get the transport fare for the following day or entire month. I will concentrate and do well in my studies.”
