Yolanda María

Ecuador
Santa Ana, Ecuador / Butcher Shop

A loan of $1,100 helped to buy meat.

Yolanda María's story

The city of Santa Ana is known for its gorgeous landscapes and the beautiful freshwater spas that are frequented by many tourists. It is here that the members of the Communal Bank “Nueva Esperanza” meet every 15 days.

Sra. Yolanda lives in this place. She is 40 years old and has a 19-year-old son who lives with her and is studying at the university. Her husband died several years ago. In order to move forward, Doña Yolanda started working as a merchant after the death of her husband. She buys meat wholesale and has it brought to her home. The meat is ground before being delivered to private homes and certain establishments that sell hamburgers. Her son helps her with the work. Yolanda has been in this business for more than 10 years and has been able to get ahead because of her hard and honest work.

This loan will be used to buy meat that she can sell. Yolanda has been with the Communal Bank for four loan cycles and enjoys the fact that her group is close-knit and thoughtful. Her dream is to have a shop in the central part of the city where she can sell meat.
