Nancy's story

In the city of Charapoto, the Salud y Vida communal bank meet every fortnight. This place is known for its traditional culture and for being a few minutes from two of the best beaches in the province - San Jacinto and San Clemente.

Nancy is 59 years old, married and has 4 adult children, three of whom still live with her. Her husband is a farmer. She learned dressmaking at an academy in the city several years ago.

Nancy is a very hardworking woman who has always liked to get ahead on her own. She is a dressmaker and has a small sewing shop in the downstairs part of her house that also has a grocery store stocking consumption goods. That's where she spends most of the day doing her work and serving her customers. Her children help her when she has a lot of work either in the store or on the clothing. In the season when classes start up again she has a lot of work as she makes a lot of uniforms for certain local schools.

This loan will be used to buy fabric and supplies to stock Nancy's store. She has been part of the communal bank since it began and enjoys the benefits she receives.

Her dreams are that her businesses grow every day and she has good health.
