A loan of $1,225 helped to purchase solar panels for her home.

Maria Lucia's story

María is a young woman, 22 years old, married and the mother of a young daughter. She has been a housewife and farmer for five years. Her husband characterizes her as an intelligent and tenacious woman because it is she who manages her partner’s property. He has been a coffee grower since very young.

Maria did not finish her primary education and studied until the fifth grade but was not able to continue in school because her parents lacked the resources to continue supporting her. Consequently, they decided to teach her how to work the earth by cultivating basic grains and other crops as that had been a source of income for them and currently is for María’s own family.

Now she is requesting help to purchase solar panels which she has yearned to have for a long time because the place where she lives does not electricity and she feels that nowadays it is necessary to have lights in her home. She has struggled for a long time to perform her household tasks every day by candlelight or/and by the light of chips of pine wood.

Her dream is that over time her daughter will be successful and that through her work and effort, along with her partner, she will be able to have a stable life and future and achieve all of her goals. With the purchase of solar panels she will be able to illuminate her home and will be more in contact with the world; she will no longer have to get up in the dark in the mornings since by only pressing a switch, she and her family will have lights in their home.
