Saan Group's story

“Saan” (excellence), a joint liability group, was formed in the year 2010 by four active women of Khariar town of Nuapada district in Odisha, India.

Puspanjali is one of the members of this group standing second from the left with her hand raised. She is 29 years of age and lives with her husband and one son of two and a half years. Puspanjali hails from a rural village and is now staying at Khariar in a rented house for her business and the education of her child.

Puspanjali has been running an internet cum photocopy center for the last seven years with the active help of her husband. She has engaged two people in her business in order to provide services to the customers. Apart from the internet work, they also do desktop publishing (DTP) and photo printing work. During her previous two loans from Mahashakti, Puspanjali was able to develop her business by adding an updated computer system, camera, etc. in each loan. From this business, she earns a monthly income of 8,000-10,000 INR.

This is the third loan for Puspanjali and she wants to purchase a photocopy machine, a camera and accessories for her computer center for the smooth running of her business. She expects a good return from this investment.

Puspanjali hopes to establish an educational institute where there will be all types of educational facilities starting from nursery to post-graduation. Puspanjali says she is doing all these things for her son, who in the future will look after her business. The other three members of this group are Satarupa, Rajeswari and Puspa, who are running a restaurant, a photocopy center, and a watch center, respectively.
