Maria Elena's story

María Elena is from Cardenas, San Luís Potosí, México. When she was very little her parents immigrated to Torreón, Coahuila. That is where she spent her childhood with her four siblings. She lived in the city for 15 years. She then left her parents in order to look for a better life.

She arrived in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, in 1999. She met the person to whom she was married. However, 14 years later he abandoned her. By then she had three children (two boys and a girl). She took on the responsibility as a mother to get them ahead. She decided to go to work.

Her first job was in a beauty shop in the center of the city where she learned different ways and styles of cutting hair. In order to improve her knowledge about beauty, and with effort, she combined her work with her studies. She enrolled in the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Nuevo León, where she specialized in beauty services.

One of her teachers motivated her to set up a small beauty shop in the garage of the house that she was renting. She tended to all of the customers who came to her. Time passed, and with great sacrifice, she managed to get together an amount of money that allowed her to buy the house where she now lives. As she was able, she built a room to set up her beauty shop. It is called Estética Marbella in honor of her daughter.

María Elena now has a lot of customers. This increases day to day because of the attention and service that she offers her customers with great satisfaction.

She has requested a loan that will allow her to get furnishings and to expand her business. This will generate greater income for her in order to continue helping her children.
