A loan of $500 helped to buy compost, fertilizers, and pesticides.

Lorenzo's story

Lorenzo is 52 years old, married, and originally from the community of El Riego, which is outside of Teustepe. He is a farmer and the father of six children, three of whom are studying while the rest are independent. Lorenzo learned his trade at a very young age by working with his parents and siblings. Part of the harvest was sold and the rest was used for family consumption. The main crops they grew were bell peppers and onions.

Lorenzo is currently planting beans and corn, most of which will be sold in Boaco. His wife works by selling “cosa de horno” (a bread made from sweet corn, cinnamon, and sugar). He is requesting a loan in order to buy compost, fertilizers, and pesticides to prevent the propagation of pests that could ruin his crops. One of his plans in the future is to buy land for planting vegetables. This will give him more production capacity and improve his earnings so that his family will have a better quality of life. His next goal going forward is to produce quality beans.
