Angela Maria

Colombia
Barranquilla, Colombia / Restaurant

A loan of $650 helped to buy food stocks in order to prepare food.

Angela Maria's story

Ángela is 40 years old and lives in the city of Barranquilla with her husband and two children, aged 14 and 17. She owns a restaurant together with her husband and also produces bakery products. Her business started 15 years ago when she capitalised on her husband's idea of becoming independent by means of a micro-finance institution.

During all these years she has managed to build up a good clientèle, especially within the members of the national police service, as her business is located just in front of their buildings.

Apart from this business she also runs an internet café, where she offers communication and photocopying services, making the most of the potential of her clients. At present she is requesting a loan, her first loan cycle with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, through which she will buy food stocks in order to be able to meet the needs of construction workers, who are working in front of the restaurant, and need feeding.

In the medium term, she plans to convert her business into a self service, with air conditioning and greater comfort. However, her biggest challenge is the strong competition that exists in her area. She deals with this effectively by offering quality service and a good business image. She is a good businesswoman and is very disciplined.
