A loan of $625 helped a member to buy different types of clothes to sell.

Javis' Group's story

Javis's group is comprised of six hard-working women. Javis is 17 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende in the Mubende region of Uganda. For the past six months, Javis has been working hard to manage her small clothing business. To help expand her business, Javis has requested a loan of 200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy different types of clothes to sell, and will help Javis to generate greater profits and take care of her young siblings. Javis hopes that in the future she will be able to own a big boutique shop. Javis is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
