A loan of $625 helped a member to buy more seeds for planting in the rainy season.

Annet's Group's story

Annet's group is comprised of three hard-working women. Annet is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kyenjojo in the Mubende region of Uganda. She is single and has two children, one of whom currently attends school. For the past two years, Annet has been working hard to manage her small farming business.

To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 600,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more seeds for planting since it’s a rainy season, and will help Annet to generate greater profits and boost her business and even open up a retail shop. Annet hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land.

Annet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
