A loan of $50 helped to pay for 10 low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Reverien's story

Reverien is a 26-year-old man from Rulindo District in the Northern Province of Rwanda. He is seeking a loan of $50 to purchase 10 rechargeable LED lights, which he will resell to people without electricity in his village. Every week or so, these customers will return to him to have their lights recharged for just $0.20.

Reverien started selling lights in November 2012, and he has sold 20 lights to date, providing clean energy to 100 people. He is also a farmer and will reinvest the money he makes into expanding his other business to earn more money for himself and his wife.
