Rwebikona Abatatsigana Group's story

Schola is a widow, aged 25 years. She is from Rwebikona, a suburb in Mbarara municipality. She dropped out of school after senior four and got married at the age of 18. Her husband passed away in a car accident when he was 25, leaving her with three children and no source of income to support the family. She acquired a loan of UGX 800,000 and started up a food stall in the market, in order to survive and also to meet the needs of her children. This business grew and helped her to sustain her family, and also to support the education of her young sisters.

Schola's business progressed with the help of UGAFODE Microfinance loans, and this motivated her to mobilize her colleagues in the market to form a development group, called Rwebikona Abatatsigana. This group has helped to make their businesses to prosper, through linkages to customers. Now, they are requesting a new loan together, to help them increase their working capital, so as to improve their standards of living.
