A loan of $1,225 helped a member to buy pesticides for her cultivated land.

Saophea's Group's story

Saophea, 40, lives with her four children in a village in Kampong Cham province’s Dambae district, Cambodia. All of her children are still in school. Saophea is a widow. To make a living, she has struggled to feed her children by planting cassava on two-hectares of farmland. Having been in this business for 12 years, she can earn approximately 27,000 KHR per day and she can save about 13,000 KHR each day after daily expenses.

Saophea has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for one loan cycle and completely paid back the loan. With the loans from VisionFund, she has managed to improve her livelihood. She is now leading her group of four to ask for a loan. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy pesticides for her cultivated land and plowing the field, and use a portion of it to spend on labor. With this loan, Saophea hopes to increase her family’s income so as to make a better living.
