Ama

Ghana
Cape Coast, Ghana / Food Market

A loan of $275 helped to purchase more yams to sell.

Ama's story

Even though Ama grew up in poverty without an education, this has not stopped her from fulfilling her dream of achieving a better life for her and her family. Currently, Ama is an entrepreneur. She sells yams in Enyan Apaa (near Cape Coast). Her business enterprise has grown substantially since she began four years ago. She uses the income from her business to help her husband meet some basic expenses of the home.

Ama has identified that there are growing demands among consumers for her product. Nevertheless she is unable to meet their needs due to limited inventory capacity. Thus she aims to use her loan to purchase more yams to sell. With the new profits from her expanded business, Ama wants to buck the trend by ensuring that all her children will be given the opportunity to further distance their family from poverty.
