A loan of $600 helped to buy tables, chairs, cornmeal, cabbage, carrots, meat, chicken and manioc.

Maria Rufina's story

María, 65, is a humble merchant originally from Rivas but currently living in Managua. She’s widowed and works making and selling food.

She started in commerce at the age of 30 with help from her husband selling food, a business that generates high daily income since she has regular customers. Later, she wanted to earn a higher profit which is why she decided to set up business outside her house so her customers would enjoy a more comfortable, family atmosphere aiming at continued daily growth in her business. She has a person who helps her make the food.

Her expectation is to expand it more in order to tend to more customers. She’s requesting to buy tables, chairs, Maseca [brand of cornmeal], cabbage, carrots, meat, chicken and manioc-all the raw materials needed to make the food.
