A loan of $650 helped to buy cosmetics and items for the home.

Arminda's story

Arminda, 59, is mother of two adult children; she lives with her spouse in the south part of the city. She sells perfumery, women’s accessories, cosmetics and costume jewelry there. Her experience started five years ago when she started the business in order to contribute to her home and to have cash for personal expenses and to help out her children.

The items she sells are cleaning supplies and novelty items she offers by visiting customer to customer and granting them short-term credit. She works Monday to Sunday from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Her main customers are located in her neighborhood and nearby areas.

Her growth goal is focused on expanding her market share but her working capital is rotating among her credit customers so buying in large amounts becomes a big challenge and this is why she’s approached Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to request a Kiva loan, her first financing from this organization, by means of which she’ll buy catalog products like perfume, cosmetics, items for the home, etc. that are on special promotion with competitive prices that her customers have pre-ordered on her previous visits.
