A loan of $300 helped to buy a sewing machine.

Julia's story

Julia’s single and has no children; she’s the third of five siblings. She had to take charge of her younger siblings and this is why she has neither a spouse nor children. She lives rent-free in a house belonging to some cousins. She has four rooms: kitchen, bathroom, a small bedroom and a small living room that contains her sewing workshop. The house is brick finished in stucco and the floor is cement; the house is located in the city of El Alto’s Nuevos Horizontes zone. She currently works as a seamstress making athletic sweatshirts but she’s currently doing the assembling with a straight-stitch sewing machine; she’s paid by the piece and she pays her transportation and food costs. She needs the loan to buy an overlock sewing machine to increase production and income. Julia dreams with having her own little house to improve her and her siblings’ quality of life. This is the first time she’s requested credit from IMPRO and KIVA.
