A loan of $1,000 helped to buy cellular phones and various other goods.

Hamidou Ousmane's story

Hamidou Ousmane was born in October 1988 in Zégoua (on the border between Ivory Coast and Mali). He is single, lives in a traditional family, and resides in Sanobougou II, a neighborhood of Sikasso (third administrative region of Mali).

Hamidou Ousmane did not have the opportunity to go far in his studies, so he quickly learned how to buy and sell cellular phones and their accessories (cases, batteries, chargers, headphones etc.) and many other various goods. He has been involved in this activity for ten years. He works in his own shop located at the Sikasso bus terminal, and he sells mostly to travelers and transporters. Thanks to the quality of his products, his goods are in high demand.

Eager to better satisfy the needs of an increasing number of customers, he joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso two years ago. He has already received six loans which were all duly repaid. He is now requesting his seventh loan to buy 65 cellular phones of various brands, 15 boxes of cases, about 15 chargers, 30 boxes of memory cards, 30 boxes of batteries, 20 dozen headphones of various kinds, about ten different watches and some belts.

Thanks to this loan, he is expecting monthly profits to reach 180,000 CFA francs which will be used to increase his business, contribute to the family's expenses and pay off his loan's interest.
