Djiguisseme Group's story

The Djiguisseme group is made up of married women and widows, who are aged 50 years on average and have an average of seven children each and live in traditional extended families in the city of Fana, in the Fana-coura area, Guegneka commune, Dioïla prefecture, Koulikoro region (second administrative region of Mali). They met each other through family ties, neighbors, and friendship. They do business selling seasonings, clothing, fish, and bananas. The women of the Djiguisseme group are on their fifteenth group loan.

The borrower Ami, second person from the left, will buy bags of onions, cans of tomato paste, Magie (bouillon) cubes, and pepper from suppliers in Bamako to sell them retail in the market in Fana, for cash and credit to a clientele made up mostly of women. She hopes to make an average monthly profit of 40,000CFA francs, which will be used for her family's needs, and a portion will be reinvested in her seasoning selling business.
