Even though Esi grew up in poverty without an education, this has not stopped her from fulfilling her dream of achieving a better life for her and her family. Currently, Esi is an entrepreneur. She prepares and sells local dishes in Enyan Apaa (near Cape Coast). Her business enterprise has grown substantially since she began five years ago. She uses the income from her business to help her husband raise their six children. Esi has identified that there are growing demands among consumers’ for her product. Nevertheless she is unable to meet their needs due to limited inventory capacity. Therefore, she plans to use her loan to purchase more food in order to cook local dishes to sell.
With the new profits from her expanded business, Esi wants to buck the trend by ensuring that all her children will be given the opportunity to further distance their family from poverty.
