A loan of $250 helped to buy more bunches of green bananas to resell.

Joyce's story

Joyce lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married and has three children, and all of her children go to school. She has one additional family member (her mother). She lives in her own house, and the family has access to electricity, but does not have access to piped water. Her monthly expenses include medication, school fees and food.

She sells green bananas at the market, on both a wholesale and a retail basis. She has been in this business for the past three years. She works six days a week. She has requested a loan of Ugandan shillings 600,000 from MCDT – SACCO. She will use the loan to buy more bunches of green bananas. Her major business challenges are transportation and seasonality. Her goals and aspirations are to become solely a wholesaler and to build rental rooms.
